Rabbit Range - Olly & Alice
Olly & Alice Alice & Robbie Greg and Boris

We had been exploring 'The Lord of the Rings' film sites and had just visited Glenorchy where some of the Riders of Rohan scenes were filmed. We loved our ride at Rabbit Range - we became the Riders of Rohan!! Jan and Henry - Father & Son, Netherlands

Welcome to Rabbit Range Horse Trekking. Come and experience Central Otago on horse back.

Whatever the time of year, Central Otago's beauty is spectacular; purple hills of flowering thyme in the summer, lambent displays of autumn leaves, spectacular hoar frosts in winter and beautiful spring blossoms, dramatic mountains, vast blue skies and amazing clouds any time of year. Take some time out from your travels to absorb the history and geography that is uniquely Central Otago. Enjoy traditional kiwi hospitality and the thrill of horse riding with Rabbit Range Horse Trekking.

Rabbit Range was born out of a passion for horses and the necessity to provide long-term homes for "rescued" horses. New Zealand has a very prolific horse racing industy. Many horses that are retired from the industry, or simply don't make the grade in the first place, are either sent to the abattoir or end-up in unsuitable homes as they are "cheap" to buy. Horse Trekking operations throughout New Zealand have retrained standbred horses from the racing industry. We are pleased to have supported the Spirit of Equus Sanctuary & Recovery Centre.

Welcome to Olly (Oleander) 1 of the 2 Kaimanawa Wild Horses we are re-homing to Central Otago from the 2010 muster. For more information go to our links page.

We are working towards Cavalcade 2011! Check out our links page for further info on 'The Heritage Pioneers & Packers' trail!
